What Is Content Engineering?

Content engineering treats a content programme as a system rather than a publishing calendar. It covers the topic architecture that decides what should exist, the data models behind pages that can be generated at scale, the templates that render them, and the internal linking that connects the whole structure into something search engines can navigate and value.

Programmatic SEO is the part of this that generates many pages from structured data: a page per city, per integration, per comparison, per use case. Programmatic SEO is the generation of large numbers of pages from a structured data source, one per city, product, comparison, or use case, each targeting a specific query pattern with information genuinely relevant to it.

Google penalises thin, duplicate, and low value content regardless of how it was produced. Programmatic pages built on real differentiated data perform extremely well, which is why quality gates matter more than volume.

As many as your data supports with genuine per page value. That might be two hundred or two hundred thousand. The number falls out of the data audit rather than being set as a target beforehand.

AI is useful for enriching and formatting structured data into readable prose. It cannot manufacture information you do not have, and pages whose only substance is generated text tend to perform poorly and age badly.
